Who’s Behind the Bin?
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
We’re a family business: two brothers and their wives, along with our kids and flocks of hungry fowl. Our goal is building something a little bigger than just a compost business. Iffy Creek Compost Collective grew from a simple idea: can a small family farm make a big impact?

We think so.

Our Story
Where We Come From
The name Iffy Creek comes from the stream that winds through our family farm in Southern Boone County, Missouri — where Dad still works the land today. A few miles down the road, on a smaller property, we’re starting something new: a community-powered compost collective that feeds our soil, our birds, and our hopes for a more resilient future.
One of us is in IT and the other is an Army veteran. After years of big city living, we both decided to move back to central Missouri to raise families, grow food, and reconnect with the land. It's wonderful to live somewhere your kids can run.
We saw successful compost models in KC and elsewhere — but noticed a big gap in mid-Missouri. So we decided to fill it.
Why Compost?
There’s a need. Households and businesses want a better way to deal with food waste — and we’ve got the chickens, the space, and the vision to turn scraps into soil.
Here’s what happens to your bucket once it leaves your porch:
-
First, it becomes high-protein feed and scratch for our flocks
-
Next, it joins forces with chicken manure and rabbit droppings in our worm bins
-
Finally, it breaks down into rich compost we use to grow food, build soil, and expand our farm into a future market garden
That’s more than just waste management — that’s soil regeneration, food production, and carbon cycling right here in your own county.
A True Family Operation
This collective isn’t just run by adults in work boots — it’s co-powered by kids with dirty hands and big ideas. Our children help scrub buckets (without harsh chemicals), pick garden produce, feed the animals and collect some eggs. They learn by doing. We believe self-sufficiency starts with knowing how things grow — and how they break down.
What We’re Growing (Besides Compost)
While compost is our starting point, we’re dreaming bigger:
-
Educational programs (think scout merit badges, school visits, and how-to workshops)
-
Community-building events and pop-up dinners
-
DIY sustainability resources for folks wanting to reconnect with the land and each other
Because for us, compost is more than a bucket. It’s a bridge — between waste and growth, between families and farms, and between problems and solutions.

Thanks for being here — and for being part of something that’s good for the soil and the soul.
